Pet Companions Guide
Passive Companions & Combat Triggers
Overview
Pet companions are passive allies that automatically grant stat bonuses and one reactive combat trigger per encounter. The system unlocks at character Level 5 via a short intro quest awarding the Scruffy Rat. There are 22 unique pets across five rarity tiers — 8 free and 14 premium. Pets evolve through 3 stages and level up to 10, scaling their bonuses by up to 2.25x at Stage 3.
Pet companions are passive allies that travel with your character and provide stat bonuses, class affinity perks, and a single reactive combat trigger per encounter. They do not take combat turns — they simply make you stronger and occasionally intervene at a critical moment.
Companions unlock at character Level 5 through a short intro quest that awards your first pet: the Scruffy Rat. From there you can earn more pets through adventures, rare drops, achievements, and — for premium subscribers — the in-game copper shop.
What Stat Bonuses Do Pets Give?
Every equipped pet grants passive stat bonuses that apply automatically in all combat. Bonuses scale with pet level (1–10) and evolution stage (1–3). A Stage 3, Level 10 pet provides roughly 2.25× the base stats of a freshly hatched Stage 1 companion.
Stat Categories by Pet
Bonus STR, DEX, Attack Damage %, Crit Chance %, Spell Damage %
Dire Wolf, Forest Wolf, Storm Eagle, Dragon Whelp
Bonus CON, Max HP, AC, Healing Received %
Meditation Turtle, Dire Wolf, Stone Beetle
Bonus XP Gain %, Gold Gain %, CHA, WIS, Mana, Ki Points
Scruffy Rat, Crested Parrot, Minstrel Monkey, Spirit Panda
Level & Evolution Scaling
| Stage | Unlocks At | Stat Multiplier | Evolution Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 | Level 1 | 1.0× | Free |
| Stage 2 | Level 4 | 1.5× | ~100k copper |
| Stage 3 | Level 8 | 2.25× | ~500k copper |
Which Pets Work Best With My Class?
Each pet has class affinity pairs — equipping a pet with an affinity that matches your character class grants bonus stats on top of the base bonuses. Strategic pairing can meaningfully amplify your build.
Example Affinities
| Pet | Affinity Class | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Crested Parrot | Pirate | +1 CHA, +2% gold gain, +1 Swagger Point |
| Crested Parrot | Bard | +2 CHA, +1% XP gain |
| Holy Dove | Cleric | +3 WIS, +4% healing received |
| Holy Dove | Paladin | +2 STR, +2% spell damage, +1% healing received |
| Meditation Turtle | Monk | +2 WIS, +2 Ki Points, +3 HP |
| Ember Salamander | Wizard | +3 INT, +4% spell damage |
| Dragon Whelp | Barbarian | +3 STR, +3% attack damage, Rage duration +1 |
| Scruffy Rat | Rogue | +1 DEX, +1% crit chance |
Tip: Every pet has affinities for two different classes. Check the pet detail dialog (click the companion portrait during combat) to see the full affinity list.
How Do Pet Combat Triggers Work?
Each pet has one combat trigger — a condition that fires automatically once per encounter when met. The trigger adds a flavor message to the combat log and applies an instant effect. You don't have to do anything; the companion acts on your behalf.
Trigger Conditions
| Condition | When It Fires |
|---|---|
| On HP Below 25% | First time your HP drops into the critical range |
| On Critical Hit | When you land a critical hit on any enemy |
| On Player Attack | After your very first attack action each encounter |
| On Ally Healed | When any party member receives healing |
| On Enemy Boss Entered | When a boss-tier enemy enters the fight |
| On Status Effect Applied | When any status effect (buff or debuff) is applied to you |
Trigger Effects
| Effect | What It Does | Example Pet |
|---|---|---|
| Restore 1d4 HP | Heals a small amount of HP immediately | Scruffy Rat |
| Temp Attack Buff | +attack bonus for 1–2 turns | Forest Wolf |
| Temp Defense Boost | +AC for 1–2 turns | Meditation Turtle |
| Enemy Attack Debuff | Reduces enemy attack roll bonus for 1 turn | Crested Parrot |
| Bonus XP | Flat XP granted at end of encounter | Spirit Panda |
| Restore Mana/Ki | Recovers a resource pool instantly | Ember Salamander |

Free Pets (No Subscription Required)
Premium Pets
These companions are available through the in-game copper shop (requires a premium subscription) or as rare adventure drops. Drop-earned copies are permanently yours even if your subscription lapses.
How to Earn Pets
Quest Rewards
Your first companion — the Scruffy Rat — is awarded by a short intro quest chain that becomes available at character Level 5. The Stone Beetle is rewarded on completion of the Deep Mines adventure (Levels 6–8).
Adventure Drops
Several pets have a chance to drop at the end of specific adventures. Drop-rate pets include the Common Toad, Forest Rabbit, War Hound Pup, Arcane Fox, Forest Wolf, and Death Wisp. If you already own the pet, the duplicate converts to pet XP instead.
Achievements
Two pets are tied to the achievement system: the Hunting Crow (complete 5 adventures) and the Healing Sprite (complete the starter trio adventures). These unlock automatically once the criteria are met.
Premium Shop
Premium subscribers can spend in-game copper at the Pet Shop in the Tavern to purchase any of the 11 premium pets. Prices range from 400k copper (Crested Parrot) to 5M copper (Dragon Whelp). In-game copper is earned through adventures — no real-money transactions.
Tips & Mechanics
- One active pet per character — equip from the Stables card in the Tavern.
- Per-account ownership — pets are stored on your account, not locked to one character. Assign the same pet to different characters freely.
- Duplicate drops = XP — if a pet you already own drops, it converts to pet XP automatically.
- Companion quests — Rare and higher pets have a companion quest that unlocks at pet Level 3 (mood turns Restless). Completing it awards bonus XP and loot.
- Triggers fire once per encounter — each battle, the trigger condition resets, so high-trigger-frequency pets are stronger in longer multi-enemy encounters.
- Pet mood — Playful after no-damage victories, Wary after defeats, Restless at Level 3 (companion quest available). Mood is cosmetic only.
- Evolution costs copper — save up before evolving. Stage 2 costs ~100k copper, Stage 3 costs ~500k copper per pet.
