Barbarian PREMIUM
Berserker / Tank DPS
Overview
The Barbarian (Premium) is Lourdin RPG's damage-focused berserker with the highest HP of any class. Starting with 12 HP, medium armor, and no mana, Barbarians activate Rage once per battle to halve incoming physical damage (bludgeoning, piercing, slashing) and gain +Level × 2 bonus damage for 5 turns. Magic damage passes through Rage at full force — pick fights against melee opponents, not casters. Brutal Critical adds an extra damage die on natural 20 rolls.
The Barbarian is a fierce berserker who channels primal fury to crush enemies with devastating power. Through their signature Rage ability, Barbarians gain massive damage boosts and take reduced damage, making them nearly unstoppable forces of destruction. Their Brutal Critical hits can one-shot enemies when luck favors the bold.
This Premium class is perfect for players who want maximum damage output with incredible survivability. Barbarians excel at both dealing and absorbing damage, serving as aggressive frontliners who terrify their enemies, similar to Warriors but with more offensive power.

Core Strengths
Starting Equipment
- Greataxe: 1d12 damage - Highest base weapon damage
- Barbarian's Hide: Light chest armor, +1 AC - Minimal protection
- 50 Copper: Starting currency for weapon upgrades
Note: Barbarians favor two-handed weapons for maximum damage output!
Unarmored Defense (Optional)
AC = 10 + DEX Modifier + CON ModifierSpecial AC Calculation: When not wearing chest armor, Barbarians add both DEX and CON modifiers to AC. This can provide excellent defense for high-CON builds!
Example: DEX 14 (+2) + CON 16 (+3) = 15 AC (10 + 2 + 3)
Choice: Wear medium armor (AC 13-15 + max +2 DEX), or go unarmored and add both DEX + CON. With Rage's 50% physical DR, AC matters less against melee — but it still matters against spellcasters whose magic damage bypasses Rage entirely. Choose based on your stat spread and the encounters you expect!
What Is Barbarian Rage and How Does It Work?
Rage (Action)
Effects:
- Gain +Level × 2 bonus damage on all attacks
- Take 50% reduced damage from physical sources only (bludgeoning, piercing, slashing)
- Magic damage (fire, cold, lightning, radiant, necrotic, force, etc.) hits at full force — Rage offers no protection
- Lasts for 5 turns
- Can only be used once per battle
Rage Damage Scaling
Level 1-5
+2 to +10 damage
Level 10
+20 damage
Level 15
+30 damage
Level 20
+40 damage
At level 20, Rage grants +40 damage per hit while halving incoming physical damage!
What Is Brutal Critical?
Brutal Critical (Level 9+)
Your critical hits are more frequent and more devastating. Critical hits occur on rolls of 19-20 (10% chance) and deal 3x damage instead of the normal 2x multiplier. Combined with Rage, your critical hits can deal over 100 damage in a single strike.
Critical Hit Example
Level 15 Barbarian with Greataxe (1d12) during Rage:
- Normal Hit: 1d12 + STR modifier + 30 (Rage) = ~40 damage
- Critical Hit: (1d12 + STR modifier + 30) x 3 = ~120 damage!
How Should You Play the Barbarian in Combat?
Unleash the Beast
Barbarians thrive in extended combat. Activate Rage on Turn 1 against tough physical enemies or bosses, then unleash a fury of attacks. The 50% physical damage reduction means melee bosses can't dent you. Against spellcaster bosses (Liches, Wizards, dragons with breath weapons), Rage protects you from their melee swings but their magic still hits full — bring health potions and lean on your party for crowd control.
Rage Timing
- Melee Boss Fights: Activate immediately — maximize physical DR + damage over 5 turns
- Spellcaster Bosses: Rage still adds damage but DR doesn't cover their spells — kill them fast or stay out of LoS
- Tough Enemies: Rage against elite mobs or dangerous threats
- Trash Mobs: Save Rage — use normal attacks to conserve your power
- Group Content: Coordinate Rage timing with allies' burst damage
Weapon Selection
- Greataxe (1d12): Highest single-die damage - best for critical hits
- Greatsword (2d6): More consistent average damage
- Maul (2d6): Alternative to greatsword
Stat Priority
- Strength: Primary stat - increases attack and damage
- Constitution: Boosts HP for even greater survivability
- Dexterity: Improves AC and initiative (tertiary)
Character Progression
Level Milestones
- Level 1-8: Learn Rage timing and resource management. Modest damage boost from Rage.
- Level 9-12: Brutal Critical unlocked - critical hits become devastating. Power spike.
- Level 13-17: Rage damage scales to +26-34. Nearly unkillable during Rage.
- Level 18-20: Peak Barbarian - +36-40 Rage damage with frequent Brutal Criticals. Unstoppable.
Playstyle Tips
- Activate Rage Early: Don't wait - get maximum value from the 5-turn duration
- Aggressive Positioning: You can tank damage - be fearless on the frontlines
- Two-Handed Weapons: Always use greataxes or greatswords for maximum damage
- Critical Fishing: At level 9+, each attack has 10% crit chance - attack frequently
- Unarmored Defense Option: Consider going unarmored (10 + DEX + CON) if your CON is high
- Medium Armor Alternative: Medium armor (AC 13-15 + max +2 DEX) also works well
- Health Potions: No self-healing - carry potions for emergencies
- One Rage Per Fight: Make it count - don't waste it on weak enemies
