Chapter 1: The Docks

menu_book

You step off the gangplank onto the creaking docks of Ocean Beach, and the scene that greets you is chaos incarnate. The stench of rotting fish mingles with spilled rum, creating a miasma that would turn a lesser warrior's stomach. Squeaks rides on your shoulder, whiskers twitching at the fouled air, tiny claws gripping tight as a dockworker stumbles toward you, eyes wide with terror.

"Stay back! The rats - they've gone mad! Big as dogs, they are!"

Before his warning fully registers, bloated rats surge from beneath the planks like a pestilent tide. Behind them, a swaying sailor with murder in his bloodshot eyes draws a broken bottle, his rum-addled mind mistaking you for the source of his misery. The rage builds in your chest like a gathering storm.

With a roar that scatters gulls from the pier posts, you charge. Your weapon becomes an extension of your fury, sweeping through the diseased vermin with devastating efficiency. The sailor lunges drunkenly; you sidestep and send him sprawling into the harbor with a contemptuous shove. Squeaks chitters triumphantly from your shoulder - this is no ordinary rat, and these bloated cousins are an insult to his kind.

The docks are yours.

Chapter 2: Fisherman's Wharf

menu_book

Blood still singing with battle-heat, you press forward along the waterfront. The fisherman's wharf stretches before you, transformed from bustling market to crustacean battlefield. Broken nets hang like funeral shrouds over shattered stalls, and an old fisherman waves frantically from atop an overturned dory.

"They came with the last tide! Crabs everywhere - smashed me boat to kindling!"

Three massive crabs scuttle toward you, their jagged shells catching the sunlight like blood-stained armor. A dock rat darts between their legs, seeking scraps, and Squeaks lets out an indignant squeak - a warning to stay clear of this fight.

You meet the crabs head-on, your barbarian strength more than a match for their armored shells. Each swing of your weapon finds the gaps in their natural armor, cracking chitin and sending chunks of shell flying. The creatures' pincers snap at empty air as you dance between them, rage giving you speed that defies your powerful frame. When the last crab falls, the fisherman's cheers echo across the wharf.

Chapter 3: The Beached Wreck

menu_book

The beach stretches southward, and there - jutting from the sand like the bones of some great beast - rises a wrecked galleon. Squeaks suddenly goes still on your shoulder, a soft warning chirp alerting you to danger before you see the movement behind the shattered portholes.

Two pirates emerge from the hull, blades drawn and grins wide. "Well well, fresh cargo walking right to us!"

Then the sand shifts beneath your feet. Two serpents burst upward, fangs dripping venom, their scales the color of sun-bleached bone. The pirates thought to catch you in a trap, but they've merely provided you with more enemies to crush.

The rage takes you fully now. You become a whirlwind of violence, weapon singing through the salt air. A serpent's fangs scrape your arm, but pain only feeds your fury. You crush its skull with a devastating blow, then turn on the pirates. Their confident grins fade as they realize what they've awakened. When silence returns to the wreck, Squeaks scurries down to investigate a pirate's pockets, emerging with a scrap of dried meat.

Chapter 4: Coral Cove

menu_book

The narrow path between sea cliffs opens into Coral Cove, where crystal-clear shallow water reveals a reef teeming with unnatural life. Massive crustaceans covered in razor barnacles patrol the tide pools like armored sentinels, while something luminous darts between the coral heads with predatory grace.

You wade into the shallows, and they surge forward to meet you. The water churns white with violence as you clash with the reef's guardians. Squeaks leaps from your shoulder to a dry rock, chattering what might be encouragement or tactical advice - with him, it's hard to tell.

Your weapon crashes through barnacled shells, turning the clear water cloudy with their ichor. The luminous creature tries to dart past your guard, but you catch it mid-leap, slamming it against the rocks with bone-crushing force. When you emerge from the cove, dripping and victorious, Squeaks scurries back to his perch, apparently satisfied with your performance.

Chapter 5: The Rum Cellar

A grateful fisherman's tip leads you beneath the Saltspray Tavern. The cellar yawns before you, impossibly vast - far larger than the building above. Barrels of stolen rum line the walls alongside crates of plundered goods, a pirate's treasure trove hidden in plain sight.

At a table in the center sits a pirate captain, counting coins with methodical precision. A thug sharpens his blade with long, deliberate strokes. A drunk sailor sways nearby, more liability than threat. The captain's eyes rise to meet yours, cold as winter seas.

"You shouldn't have come down here, friend. Nobody leaves my cellar breathing."

"We'll see about that," you growl, and charge.

The thug moves to intercept, but you barrel through him like he's made of straw. Your weapon finds the drunk first - a mercy, really - then turns on the thug with devastating force. The captain draws a wicked cutlass, proving himself more skilled than his men, but skill means nothing against pure, focused rage. You trade blows that echo off the cellar walls, Squeaks watching from atop a rum barrel with what might be professional interest. When your weapon finally breaks through the captain's guard, his cold eyes widen in genuine surprise.

His last surprise.

Chapter 6: Tide Pool Grotto

menu_book

The cellar's deepest tunnel opens into something that shouldn't exist beneath a tavern - a natural sea cave, vast and ancient. Bioluminescent algae paint everything in ghostly blue light, and the air tastes of salt and dark magic.

At the center, knee-deep in black water, stands the Sea Hag.

She's a nightmare given form - hunched and draped in kelp and shells, her skin the color of drowned flesh. When she speaks, her voice echoes like waves in a hollow hull: "You dare enter my grotto? I called the tides to drown this wretched town, and you - you will join the drowned!"

Gnarled hands rise, crackling with salt magic. Two tide stalkers surface beside her, beings of animated seawater and malice. Squeaks dives into your pack, knowing this battle will be beyond even his street-honed survival instincts.

The hag's magic lashes out like whips of brine, burning where it strikes. The tide stalkers flow around your guard, reforming when struck. But you are Rage incarnate, and the fury of a barbarian cannot be drowned. You smash through the tide stalkers again and again, forcing them to reform, buying yourself openings to close with the hag herself.

Her magic sears your flesh. Your weapon cleaves through her protective spells. It's a battle of attrition - her ancient power against your inexhaustible rage. When your weapon finally finds her twisted heart, her scream shakes the cavern. The tide stalkers collapse into ordinary water. The bioluminescent algae dims.

The Sea Hag falls, and her curse begins to break.

Chapter 7: The Drowned Quarter

menu_book

But victory comes with a price. The eastern quarter of Ocean Beach remains submerged in foul water, and as you wade through the flooded streets, you realize the hag's magic has left terrible gifts behind.

Waterlogged corpses begin to stir. Dead pirates rise from the muck, barnacles growing from their rotting flesh, cutlasses still clutched in skeletal hands. Behind them, a churning column of brine takes shape - a saltwater elemental, remnant of broken spells.

Squeaks peers out from your pack, chittering nervously. Even he has never seen the dead walk.

You give the undead the only mercy available - complete destruction. Your weapon shatters waterlogged bone and ancient barnacle alike. The elemental crashes over you like a wave, trying to drown you where you stand, but your rage burns too hot to be extinguished. You strike at its core again and again until it collapses into ordinary seawater, leaving you gasping but victorious in the flooded street.

Chapter 8: The Shipyard

The shipyard should have been sanctuary, but the Sea Hag's dying magic has turned even protective wards hostile
